PAS 185:2017 Smart cities security
Publicly Available Specifications (PAS) are fast-track standards, specifications, codes of practice or guidelines developed by sponsoring organisations to meet an immediate market need following guidelines set out by BSI (British Standards Institution). Within 2 years they are reviewed to assess whether they should be revised, withdrawn, or become formal British Standards or international standards.
PAS 185:2017 Smart Cities. Specification for establishing and implementing a security-minded approach, and was published in November 2017.
Smart cities use data and information to enhance services and provisions for citizens. However, their increased dependence on information technologies can create vulnerabilities and security issues, which requires a new security-minded approach.
PAS 185:2017 provides a framework for the development of a security strategy for handling, managing and sharing data and information. It can be used to guide the development of smart city projects and the operation, delivery, evolution and disposal of assets and services.
It covers all aspects of smart cities, including; scale, organisational complexity, complex service delivery, ownership of infrastructure, response to incidents, events, changing risk levels and extent of autonomy. It is aimed at smart city decision-makers, data officers, and those involved in delivering smart city objectives using data and information.
